Welcome to the Health Observance Corner. In each issue of Information Interface the Library will spotlight several key health topics.

Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month

May is Asthma and Allergy awareness health observance month. Sponsored by Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America whose goal is to improve the quality of life for people with asthma and allergies through education, advocacy, and research.

Skin Cancer Awareness Month

This health observance is sponsored by American Cancer Society whose goal is to help patients, family, and friends learn about cancer, treatment options, and coping. The American Cancer Society provides statistics, facts and figures, and information on prevention and early detection for health information seekers.

National Scleroderma Awareness Month

This health observance is sponsored by Scleroderma Foundation which is a nonprofit organization with a three-fold mission:
Support: To help patients and their families cope with scleroderma through mutual support programs, peer counseling, physician referrals and educational information.
Education: To promote public awareness and education through patient and health professional seminars, literature and publicity campaigns.
Research: To stimulate and support research to improve treatment and ultimately find the cause of and cure for scleroderma and related diseases.

Vision Research Month

This health observance is sponsored by Prevent Blindness America, which is the nation’s leading volunteer eye health and safety organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving sight. Prevent Blindness America serves millions of people each year through public and professional education, community and patient services programs and research. Together with a network of affiliates, divisions and chapters, it’s committed to eliminating preventable blindness in America.
