Welcome to the Health Observance Corner. In each issue of Information Interface the Library will spotlight several key health topics.

National Eye Donor Month

Eye Bank Association of America, which is a not-for-profit organization of eye banks, is dedicated to the restoration of sight through the promotion and advancement of eye banking. The oldest transplant association in the United States, the EBAA is a nationally recognized accrediting body for eye banks. Since 1961, EBAA member banks have restored sight to more than 1,000,000 individuals.

National Nutrition Month

National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign sponsored annually by the American Dietetic Association (ADA). The Campaign is designed to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. NNM also promotes ADA and its members to the public and the media as the most valuable and credible source of timely, scientifically based food and nutrition information.

Alcohol Awareness Month

The goal of this month long observance is to promote the issues of alcohol and drug dependence among individuals. Sponsored by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence whose goal is to provide education, information, help and hope to the public. It advocates prevention, intervention and treatment through offices in New York and Washington, and a nationwide network of affiliates.

IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) Awareness Month

IFFGD, the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders, is a non-profit education and research organization, which addresses the issues surrounding life with Gastrointestinal (GI) functional and motility disorders. IFFGD’s main focus is to increase the awareness about these disorders among the general public, researchers, and the clinical care community.
