Director's Desk
Spring 2006 will see many new and exciting changes in Himmelfarb Library’s resources and services. As you will read elsewhere in this newsletter, the Library is pleased to provide full-text access to our Elsevier subscriptions, such as Brain Research, back to 1995, and we are also evaluating a new search product called Scopus with an innovative, easy-to-use interface to the published biomedical literature. The popular Dean’s Series of Information Updates will be repeated in February for those who could not make the fall sessions. See the calendar on p.9 for details. Finally, With the relocation of Classroom Services, the Bloedorn AV Study Center (BAVSC) has undergone a major reconfiguration into a student-centered learning area. The collection has been weeded of outdated materials; anatomic models have been located on open shelving; and many videos have been integrated with the book collection on the Terrace Level to promote utilization. The Audiovisual Circulation Desk has been moved to the middle of the Study Center to create collaborative computing spaces and a student lounge created in its former location. Printers and computer workstations have been rearranged within the remaining space to promote utilization. We hope that these changes will allow the BAVSC staff to focus more fully on curricular support services. Contact Catherine Harris at 202-994-2857 or mlbcrh@gwumc.edu to schedule a software consultation or contact Alexandra Gomes at 202-994-1825 or mlbawg@gwumc.edu for questions regarding computers or multi-media in the curriculum. We look forward to working with faculty staff, and students in the upcoming months!
Best wishes for a successful year!
