Himmelfarb Welcomes New Staff

During the past year, the Library has added a few new staff members to its roster; take a look below to get to know them.

Kate Finklestein, Reference Librarian

On August 1st, Kate Finklestein joined the Reference and Information Team as a Reference Librarian. She previously was Head of Education at McGoogan Library at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, where she organized the library’s instructional services. She earned her MLIS from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. In her role as Reference Librarian, she will be participating in the Problem-based Learning groups for the MSI’s, teaching instructional classes, and working with students, staff, and faculty at the Reference Desk. We are happy to have her join our staff. Please stop by and welcome Kate.

Tylka Vetula, Serials Librarian

The Himmelfarb Library welcomes Tylka Vetula who is joining our staff this fall as the Serials Librarian. Tylka received an MLIS from Simmons College in Boston. Her interest in serials began in the rare book room of Harvard's Countway Library. Since then she has worked with serials in academic/professional schools; one of which was the Burns Law Library here at GW. Most recently she was cataloging the prints and photographs in the History of Medicine's collection at the National Library of Medicine.

Shavonne Davis, Executive Aide

Shavonne Davis is the new Executive Aide for the AV Desk at Himmelfarb Library. She worked previously for Medical Center Facilities, serving as the Greeter for the Hospital 6th Floor. She comes from Roxboro, North Carolina, where she studied Business Management.

Shavonne plans to take classes here at GW. She loves cooking, music, and movies, and she thrives on excitement. We’re excited to have her on staff!

David Harrington, ILL Specialist

Himmelfarb Library is happy to announce that David Harrington joined the library staff in February. He holds the position of Interlibrary Loan Specialist. David’s background is in research and the use of technical systems. He has extensive customer service training. David will process all requests for materials held in the Himmelfarb collection as well as those Himmelfarb borrows from other libraries for our faculty, staff and students. He is the person who receives requests made through the Online Request form on our web page. Please help us welcome David to the Library.

Evangeline Alexander MLIS

Himmelfarb is happy to announce that Evangeline Alexander, MLIS, will be joining our staff as a National Library of Medicine (NLM) 2nd Year Fellow for the upcoming year. Evangeline spent the past year at NLM learning its operation and working with the various departments. She also completed two NLM Library projects. During her 2nd year here at GWUMC, she will be working with the staff of the Library and the Medical Center, learning how the schools operate, attending meetings, and observing how the Library is a major part of the academic, research and clinical operation of the Medical Center. Evangeline earned her MLIS from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where she previously concluded a five-year enlistment in the U.S. Navy working as a cryptologist. Evangeline will be working within the various departments of the Library, as well as teaching classes and assisting patrons at the Reference and Information Desk. Welcome to Himmelfarb, Evangeline.
