Library Hours - Thanksgiving Weekend

Himmelfarb Library will modify its hours over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend as listed below:

Wednesday, November 25 7:30 AM - 8:00 PM
Thursday, November 26 CLOSED
Friday, November 27 CLOSED
Saturday, November 28 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Sunday, November 29 Open at 9:00 AM and regular (24/7) hours resume

User Survey

Himmelfarb Library will be conducting a brief entry survey of its users at selected one-hour time frames during the remainder of September and early October.

Individuals entering the library will be stopped briefly to identify their user category (1st year, 2nd year, faculty, etc) and reason for library visit (research, computer use, studying, etc.) by staff members stationed at the Library's Access Monitor Desk. There will be nothing to fill out, with only a brief responses to the two questions requested.

We appreciate your willingness to take a few seconds to help us better understand who our frequent users are and the purpose the library serves for those users. We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation!

Wireless Color Printing

Need to print in color from your laptop? Now you can! Documents can be sent to the color printer on the third floor of Himmelfarb Library via the wireless network. Just download and install the color printer packet and you'll be ready to print.

Instructions and the packets for Windows and Mac operating systems can be found are located on the Library Website via the Computing link. The cost for color prints is 75 cents per page.

2nd Floor Renovations Complete

We are pleased to announce that the new, quiet study area located on the 2nd floor of Himmelfarb Library is now open and available for use. This unit comprises 6,748 square feet of additional study space furnished with 58 open carrels, 37 closed carrels and 14 group study tables. Additional group table space has been added to the 1st floor along with new furnishings as well. In order to expand access for our users, the library will be open 24 hours per day starting Monday August 24.

Please note that upgrades to the library will continue to take place including furniture replacements and bathroom renovations.

If you have not seen the library renovations, I urge you to take a look. I think it is something we can all take pride in.

24/7 Library Hours

Himmelfarb Library will begin 24/7 hours of operation on Monday, August 24. Limited circulation functions will be provided between 12:00 midnight and 8:00am. The Reference Desk and the Bloedorn Technology Center Help Desk will be open the hours listed below.

Hours will be modified as noted during University Breaks and Holidays.

Quiet Study & 2nd Floor Construction

Furniture installation on the 2nd floor of Himmelfarb Library the week of July 13. This installation may cause some noise on the 2nd floor. To provide dedicated quiet space for 4th year medical students studying for boards, the following areas have been reserved for their use:

6 carrels in the Bloedorn Technology Center (3rd Floor Himmelfarb)
Study room/lounge adjacent to the Bloedorn Technology Center (3rd Floor Himmelfarb)
Rooms T2 and T3 (Basement/Terrace Level Himmelfarb)

2nd & 3rd Floor Renovations

During the week of July 6th, Facilities will be installing white boards in the small group study rooms on the second and third floors of Himmelfarb Library. There will be intermittent noise during this installation process. Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve the library facility.

Bathroom renovations - update

Himmelfarb Library's 2nd floor bathrooms were recently renovated and will re-open on Wednesday, May 20.

Also, beginning Wednesday, May 20, Himmelfarb Library's 1st floor bathrooms will be closed for renovation. This work is expected to take at least one month and will be done at night after the Library has closed.

Where are Himmelfarb Library's bound journals?

To create additional study space at Himmelfarb Library, bound journals which were formerly located on the 2nd floor of Himmelfarb Library have moved. Many of these bound journals are now available in on-site storage, while others have been moved to off-site storage. Information on the location of all bound journals can be found by searching the Library Catalog.

If you need an article or issue which is located in on-site storage, simply complete a brief online request form. The volumes which you request will be retrieved from our on-site storage facility and can be picked up at Himmelfarb Library's Reference and Circulation Desk after one hour.

If you need an article which is located in off-site storage, please submit your request electronically via our Documents2Go Request Form. The articles that you request will be ready with two to four business days. Articles can be delivered to you via email, or printed copies can be picked up at Himmelfarb Library's Reference and Circulation Desk.

Electronic access is also provided for the majority of the Library's journal collection; users can access electronic journals by searching the Library Catalog or accessing the E-Journals webpage.

Easy printing from your laptop

Himmelfarb Library is happy to announce that wireless printing is now possible throughout the Library.

Send documents or websites to the printers from your PC or Mac anywhere in the Library. Print jobs will remain in the print queue for two hours and can be claimed at any printer in the Library. Please consult these additional instructions for information on installing the necessary software.

Access Monitor in Himmelfarb

Access to Himmelfarb Library recently has been restricted to Medical Center affiliates only, due to renovations taking place on the second floor and the subsequent loss of study space.

In order to ensure that our affiliates have full access to our current study spaces and resources, we are setting up an Access Monitor desk at the entrance to the library. The person staffing the desk is responsible for checking all user IDs as folks enter the library to ensure those using the library are supposed to be here. Please carry your ID with you at all times and be prepared to show it each time you enter Himmelfarb.

The Access Monitor desk will be in place on Tuesday, November 18. We will staff it initially during the peak hours of 4pm-8pm. While we understand this is an additional step for all users, we are appreciative of your cooperation in helping us create a more satisfying environment in which to study at Himmelfarb during this time.

Print Journals Access

In anticipation of the renovation of Himmelfarb Library 2nd floor, journals have been moved. To obtain needed articles, please complete an online form.

Bound journals containing the requested item will be available at the Circulation Desk two (2) hours after requests are made if title is now located in Onsite Closed Reserve. Unless notified via email, please return the same day to retrieve requested items. Bound journals are returned to the shelf if not picked up within 24 hours.
