Tired of the same old boring charts, graphs, and bulleted slides?

Although Himmelfarb is a health sciences library, we do purchase some items on non-health science topics that we think will be helpful to our users. One example is the books by Edward Tufte.

Tufte is a former statistics professor at Yale University who has become well known for his critiques of how information is typically depicted in graphs, tables, illustrations and PowerPoint slides. He has published several books about the visual display of information and teaches a one-day course, Presenting Data and Information.

The Himmelfarb Library has three of his books available for borrowing. We highly recommend them if you are interested in this topic or would like to improve the ways in which your information can be displayed:

Visual explanations: images and quantities, evidence and narrative (P93.5 .T8 1997)

Envisioning information (QA90 .T91 1990)

The visual display of quantitative information (QA276.3 .T83 1983)

While exploring this topic of how to visually present information, take our Intermediate Excel and Graphing class on Tuesday, September 9th, 2-3pm in the Women's Board Teaching Center on the 3rd floor of the Library.
