Special exhibit -- Opening Doors: Contemporary African American Academic Surgeons

The School of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Himmelfarb Library are pleased to host the traveling exhibition of Opening Doors: Contemporary African American Academic Surgeons.

This exhibit is a collaborative effort between the National Library of Medicine, the largest medical library in the world, and the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture in Baltimore, the largest African American museum on the east coast of the United States. It is a celebration of the contributions of African American academic surgeons to medicine and medical education.

Please stop by the entranceway to Himmelfarb to view this attractive and informative exhibit, which will be on view through September 30, 2007.

Big thank you to the artists and BrushMedicine!

Thank you to all the artists who contributed work for Himmelfarb's 2007 Annual Art Show and to BrushMedicine, who co-hosted the opening. The opening party was a big success and the art show is bigger than ever.

If you haven't had a chance to see the show yet, it will remain up around the first floor of the library through the end of April. Everything in the show is by students, faculty, and staff of the GWUMC, so come by and see how your colleagues' talents extend beyond their academic and clinical work.

Food for Fines

Put your library fines to work for the community. For three weeks, April 15-May 5, 2007, Himmelfarb will exchange Food for Fines. One dollar in current library fines will be removed from your record for every canned good or non-perishable food item you donate.

All items will be donated to Bread for the City, a local non-profit organization serving low income residents of Washington, DC.

Please note that we can only remove fines, not book replacement fees. A maximum of $20.00 in fines will be waived per person.

Contact the Circulation Desk at (202) 994-2962 for more information about the food for fines exchange.
