Tool of the Week: GWUMC Faculty Publications

The Himmelfarb Library maintains a database of references to the published works of GWUMC faculty authors. The database does not contain or link to the full text of the works themselves, but it is a reference list organized by year. The GWUMC Faculty Publications database is a useful place to explore what are our faculty research interests.

References are found by searches of library databases such as MEDLINE, Scopus, and Global Health, using the GWUMC and Childrens' Hospital addresses to identify new records. Book chapters are identified by searching a medical book retailer's database. Reports and online articles are identified from Departmental newsletters and webpages. Given the limitations of these search methods the database is not a full list of everything published by faculty in the past year. To help ensure we keep a more complete record of your publications, faculty are invited to add references to their published works. We ask faculty to add references only to work published during tenure here at GWUMC. References may include published journal articles, editorials, books, book chapters, audiovisual materials, and computer-based programs. Please do not add references for meeting abstracts and letters.

Before you add new references, please check to make sure that your reference is not already in the database:

  1. Access the GWUMC Faculty Publications database and select the relevant year.
  2. Use your Internet browser's 'find text' function to locate all the all the records that match your last name. References are listed alphabetically by the first named author.

To add a reference to the faculty publications database:

  1. Access the GWUMC Faculty Publications management console.
  2. Login with your personal username/password; you can obtain from the database moderator Paul Levett (mlbprl@gwumc.edu).
  3. Add new references. Note: New references added manually will appear in the database only after approval by the database moderator.

If you have questions regarding the GWUMC Faculty Publications database, please contact Paul Levett at 202-994-8478 or mlbprl@gwumc.edu.
