Tool of the Week: Essential Evidence Plus
Essential Evidence Plus provides evidence-based point-of-care information through evidence-based summaries and analysis as well as clinical tools and calculators. Essential Evidence Plus provides integrated access to a range of information tools to allow clinicians to quickly access relevant information, assess its value, and determine its relevance for their patient(s).
Essential Evidence articles are the core information summaries in Essential Evidence Plus. Each Essential Evidence article contains 'bottom line' highlights of the most important findings as well as strength of evidence ratings for each key recommendation. Essential Evidence articles are also hyperlinked to related information including guidelines, Cochrane systematic reviews, and POEMs (concise summaries of valid, relevant research presented in an easy-to-understand format), as well as interactive decision support tools and diagnostic calculators.
Essential Evidence Plus provides a daily POEM email service to help clinicians keep updated and to review recent evidence. Each daily POEM email reviews a single clinical study and summarizes the clinical question, bottom-line answer, study design, funding, setting, allocation, and results synopsis. Each POEM also links to the original study in PubMed. If you would like to receive a daily POEM email, please send an email to mlblea@gwumc.edu.
Essential Evidence Plus also offers users up to 20 credits of CME credit per year. To obtain CME credit, register for a personal profile.
Essential Evidence Plus is listed on Himmelfarb Library's E-Databases webpage with Clinical/Evidence-Based Medicine resources. Essential Evidence Plus is available from both on- and off-campus locations to GWU faculty, residents, students, and staff. Please ask us if you have any questions.
