MEDLINE (and more) search enhancements

On Thursday July 31, searchers using MEDLINE and other Ovid databases will be able to use several interesting new enhancements to the OvidSP interface. These changes will will be available on all Ovid databases including PsycINFO, Global Health, AMED, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, and Ovid's EBM databases.

The enhancements all provide the ability for you to easily customize OvidSP according to your preferences. These changes will allow you to collapse and move different search tools to make OvidSP maximally convenient and useful for you.

The enhancements include:

  • Search Aid - This area is populated with terms, journals, and authors which are relevant to your search, and which you can use to narrow your search results. The updated interface will allow you to expand or collapse this segment based on your preferences.
  • Search History - This area contains a list of all of the individual searches which you've done during this search session. The updated interface will allow you to reposition the search history area either above or below the main search box according to your preference. In very complex searches, moving the search history can help you avoid some unnecessary scrolling.
  • Results Manager - This area of the screen can help you download/email/print/save the results that you've selected. The updated interface will display this segment in two areas so that it can be easily located. You will have the option of minimizing the results manager in either or both locations according to your preferences.
