Himmelfarb Library is pleased to offer alumni of the GW Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences, Public Health and Health Services, and Nursing, physical and off-campus access to select information resources for personal education and research.
Physical Access
As alumni of the GW Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences, Public Health and Health Services, and Nursing, you are welcome to visit Himmelfarb Library in order to use Library collections on site. Off-site access to resources is not available to alumni.
- Himmelfarb Library welcomes alumni of the three schools from 7:30am to 6:00pm Monday through Friday. A valid GWorld Alumni card is required for admission.
- For access to the Library during other hours, please contact the Associate Director at (202) 994-8906.

GWorld Alumni Cards
- A GWorld Alumni card will be necessary for entrance to Himmelfarb Library
- Entrance is through a turnstile, so Alumni visiting the Library will need to see a Library manager the first time they visit.
- To obtain a GWorld Alumni card, please bring your current GWorld card (if you have one) and a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport, to the GWorld Card Office at:

Electronic-Resources for Alumni Use
Alumni have access to a selection of premium electronic resources through the support of the GW Alumni Association and the Gelman Library. These include:
- Proquest Research Library (Alumni Edition): This database provides access across a wide range of subject areas, including business, education, literature, political science,and psychology. The database includes more than 3,000 titles - over 2,500 in full text.
- ABI/Inform Complete (Alumni Edition). This database provides access to nearly 4,000 business-related titles, with close to 3,000 in full-text.
- Project Muse : This database provides access to full-text articles and reviews from over 300 high quality humanities, arts, and social sciences journals from 60 scholarly publishers.
- Dissertations & Theses @ GW : A collection of citations and abstracts from dissertations and theses published by GW students. A selection of these, generally published from 1997-present, also have a 24 page preview of the work and full-text access.
- RefWorks: An online research management, writing, and collaboration tool. It is designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies.
- JSTOR Archive: This archival database includes scholarship in over one thousand of the highest-quality academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Also includes free Early-Journal Content, journals published before 1923 in the U.S. and before 1870 outside of the U.S.

In addition, there are a number of high-quality resources freely available to alumni. These include:
- PubMed: Citations and abstracts for peer-reviewed biomedical journal articles published from 1950 to the present. Also called MEDLINE.
- National Guideline Clearinghouse: Evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. Includes guidelines in English which were written, reviewed, or revised in the last five years and which were systematically developed. Produced by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

Borrowing privileges
- Due to the specialized nature of Himmelfarb Library's collection and limited resources, borrowing privileges are available to current faculty, students and staff only. However, Himmelfarb Library does provide a fee-based document delivery service to alumni of the three schools it serves via Loansome Doc, a service which permits users to order full-text articles when searching PubMed.
- Any additional alumni requests regarding the borrowing of Himmelfarb Library materials should be directed to the Associate Director at (202) 994-8906.
