Faculty Advisors

Faculty Advisors are university professors, instructors, and staff members at The George Washington University or George Mason University who are committed to the concept of community-oriented healthcare and health education.

How much time is involved?
                 The time commitment is approximately six hours per month.

What is required of the Faculty Advisors?

      • Participate in team meetings to provide guidance and insight into the team project, curriculum, and process (if unable to attend a meeting, notifying the team and communicate ideas via e-mail or telephone)
      • Monitor student curriculum presentations and discussions
      • Communicate and interact with the Community Advisor regularly to provide consistent supervision and guidance to the student team
      • Serve as primary contact for student questions and problems regarding the ISCOPES project and as a link to other university resources and expertise as needed
      • Meet with students individually to provide guidance and advice regarding tasks and progress on the project, to give timely feedback, and to discuss other topics as needed
      • Serve as a liaison between the university and the community organization, notifying ISCOPES Director of concerns
      • Complete an evaluation of each student on the team, including input from Community Advisor
      • Offer insight about their personal work experiences
      • Attend Advisor reflections and planning meetings with ISCOPES Director (approximately three per year)
      • Communicate regularly with Community Advisor and ISCOPES Director about the team and program overall

How are Faculty Advisors evaluated?
Faculty Advisors are evaluated by student team members at the end of the   academic year.

What are the benefits of participating in ISCOPES?
