The Interdisciplinary Student Community-Oriented Prevention Enhancement Service (ISCOPES) is a year-long interdisciplinary team service-learning experience geared toward providing a wide range of health-related services in Washington, DC. The beneficiaries of these services are often times marginalized, underserved or uninsured individuals—those with few economic resources, with limited access to healthcare, and whose language or literacy levels may prevent full involvement and acceptance in the community at large.
Health professional students from Medicine, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Health Services Management and Leadership, and Public Health come together in teams to work with a community partner organization, receiving guidance from both a community advisor and a university adivsor. Through these partnerships, students foster health in the District by addressing public health concerns and working with community assets to prevent barriers and to improve access to care. |
