The "I Speak Campaign"

The Interpreter program at La Clinica has joined with local graduate health profession students (ISCOPES) to evaluate language access for patients. The team has researched the applicable federal laws and advisories, Title VI and the CLAS Standards, and the laws in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia.  Together we have created the "I Speak Campaign" to tell patients of their rights and providers of their obligations. It includes downloadable "I Speak" cards and provider information, a public service announcement, as well as an article, and poster presentations at conferences. We have talked with patients and handed out cards at health fairs, in clinics, at a rally, and on street corners and presented the provider information at clinics and at meetings to future and current health providers.
