With only five pediatricians and seven surgeons serving 4.9 million people, nearly half of whom are under the age of 14, Eritrea is in dire need of well-trained specialists. At the request of the Eritrean Ministry of Health, GW is partnering with Physicians for Peace, an international humanitarian, not-for-profit medical education and training organization, to create an innovative graduate medical education program that will build the healthcare workforce capacity by training specialty physicians and provide a self-sustaining medical education and residency program for graduates of the new Orotta School of Medicine. Over the course of ten years, this innovative program will dramatically increase the number of well-trained Eritrean specialists to provide high quality medical care.
