Educational Programs

Educational and training programs offered by the Office of International Medicine Programs aim to achieve the George Washington University Medical Center’s mission of improving the health and wellbeing of our global communities. The IMP achieves this by establishing and promoting exchanges as the foundation of our educational programming. We offer programs for international physicians, including Continuing Medical Education and Observership Training by GWUMC physicians, in-country or at GWUMC. The International Clinical Electives Program enables medical students from GW and abroad to experience a medical system other than their own across the globe. The IMP also organizes medical missions that give GW medical and public health students as well as GW physicians an opportunity to work on the ground in developing countries as they strive to expand sustainable healthcare services.
Additionally, the Office of International Medicine Programs works with its partner organizations to customize educational programs for students and practitioners at all levels based on the needs of their home country or institution. We welcome inquiries from hospitals, clinics, medical schools, governments, and independent organizations around the world interested in building a first-rate corps of medical professionals. The exchanges established between the international medical community and GWUMC include the International MD Program, the International Residency Programs, the International Fellowship Programs and the Observership Training Program. We will consider applications from qualified students and physicians under the sponsorship of an institution or the government of the individual’s home country. Interested organizations may contact us by e-mail at impjss@gwumc.edu.
Qualified GW and international students and physicians may apply to Educational Programs at the George Washington Medical Center through the Office of International Medicine Programs by clicking the Applications and Brochures tab. The application can also be mailed or faxed upon request.
