Meet the Staff

Janan Sarkis, MPH
Program Director

Janan Sarkis is the Program Director at the Office of International Medicine Programs at The George Washington University Medical Center. Janan received her BA in Business Administration and Master of Public Health from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.

Janan has over twenty years of experience in counseling, training, program design and administration in a higher education setting. She has developed and implemented creative and visionary programs in healthcare education.

As Program Director for the Middle East medicine programs, Janan recruits international students to the International MD Program and international physicians to the International Residency, Fellowship and Observership Programs. Janan develops and implements recruitment strategies to attract international applicants and meets with officials of foreign cultural attaché located in the DC area to discuss affiliation. Janan manages the admission and acceptance processes and prepares the relevant agreements with the sponsoring institutions and GWU departments. Ms. Sarkis manages all the financial transactions associated with the above programs.

Ms. Sarkis manages the continuing medical education courses which are conducted to physicians located in the Middle East region. She receives course requests from IMP partners and recruits the appropriate faculty to conduct these courses. She acts as liaison between the requesting company and the faculty in terms of development, delivery, and certificate completion. She manages all financial activities related to CME courses.

Ms. Sarkis establishes affiliations with international medical institutions in the areas of medical education and training and student exchanges for GWU medical, public health, and health sciences students.
