Ph.D. candidates are selected for admission to the Institute
after evaluation of their qualifications and an interview.
The Admissions Committee seeks students with broad interests
and enthusiasm for further in-depth study in the biomedical
sciences. It is important that applicants have course work
that prepares them for a rigorous core curriculum in modern
molecular and cellular biology and laboratory research experience.
In addition to the admission requirements set by Columbian
College of Arts and Sciences, the Institute for Biomedical
Sciences requires that students have successfully completed
two semesters of college-level courses in biology, general
chemistry, math, organic chemistry, and physics. Normally,
a minimum of a B average is required (3.0 on a 4.0 scale).
All applicants must submit the GW graduate admissions application,
along with GRE general test scores, three letters of recommendation,
transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended,
and a statement of purpose. International applicants must
meet the University's English language requirements as stated
in the graduate admissions application.
If you have questions about the admissions process, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page for CCAS. If you have a question about the process, then chances are good that someone else also had the same question.
Application Deadline: December 15, 2009
Note: all application materials must be sent to the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. Please do not send applications directly to the IBS Office; this will delay review of your application.
