Spirituality and Health Care Graduate Certificate Program

Director's Welcome

Sylvia Silver, D.A.We are very excited to offer the first graduate certificate program in Spirituality and Health Care that prepares the health care professional with practical scholarly information and clinical skills to care for individuals and families in a comprehensive manner.

I am frequently asked, “What will a graduate certificate in Spirituality and Health Care actually do for my professional career”. This graduate certificate program prepares the health care professional to provide leadership for integrating spirituality into their own health care and systems of care. For example, many students feel it has given them the theoretical and research framework to be able to talk more effectively with others about the benefits and rationale for spirituality and health. This is exemplified by the projects several of the current students are involved with in their own organizations. Many are working more intentionally on the integration of spiritual assessment and/or spiritual care providers, e.g. chaplains and others into the interdisciplinary teams. Others are talking with other health care team members to focus on the importance of spirituality, both for meeting the patient’s/client’s needs, but also for the wellbeing of the health care professionals.

We currently have more than 25 students in the program! A new cohort of students will begin in May and September 2008, and it would be wonderful if you could join us. Please let me know if you need additional information.
