Spirituality and Health Care Graduate Certificate Program

Program Objectives

The purpose of the program is to produce graduates who will be able to:   

  1. Lead in the provision of individualized, patient-centered care that respects the beliefs and values of patients and their families;
  2. Consult regarding the provision of appropriate spiritual care within the healthcare context;
  3. Critically evaluate research and provide guidance regarding the incorporation of research findings regarding spirituality and health into practice;
  4. Facilitate the practice of spiritual care in health care institutions, especially in situations in which individuals and families face particular challenges, such as serious chronic illness, stress, chronic pain, end of life care, and bereavement; and
  5. Develop programs in which health care professionals can address their personal spirituality as a factor that might nurture their sense of professional meaning and purpose and help to express that appropriately in their professional lives.
