Does the Department of Nursing Education offer a bachelor’s degree?
Yes, we are proud to announce that we now offer a second-degree BSN program.
Does the department offer any dual-degree programs?
No, the department does not offer dual degrees. Students must complete one program before pursuing another.
How many credits can I transfer?
The university accepts up to six credits of transfer from another institution of higher learning. Students must submit a course description and syllabus to the department for approval. Clinical hours are non-transferrable.
Does the department accept paper applications?
No, the department requires prospective students to submit their application online.
Does the department require the GRE?
No, the department does not require the GRE.
What academic terms do students attend?
The Department of Nursing Education follows the regular academic schedule (prospective students should note that these courses are not self-paced). Students are enrolled for the fall, spring, and summer terms. Prospective students should refer to the sample programs of study found on the Program Requirements pages of each program.

Does the department offer early admission decisions?
No, the department does not offer early decisions on admission. All applicants are reviewed as a group and individually before making decisions.
Are there any on-campus requirements?
Prospective students should refer to the "On-Campus Requirements" link for their program of interest. In general students can expect to come to campus at least one time during their course of study. All students are also encouraged to attend graduation ceremonies.
What is the cost per credit hour?
The 2009-2010 cost for the programs in the Department of Nursing Education
is $571 per credit hour plus a $35 registration fee each semester.
How many hours should I expect to devote to studying per week?
For each graduate course, you should count on 10 to 12 hours per week. This includes reading and all other course assignments. Weekly time commitments vary from course to course. Some assignments are due each week and some assignments have a future date. You will know from the course syllabus.
How are courses delivered?
GW uses an online platform called Blackboard to teach courses. Students log onto the system to view instructor postings, interact with classmates, receive and turn in assignments, and complete other projects.
What is considered a full/part-time student?
A half-time student needs to be registered for six to eight credits or at least two courses. A full-time student is registered for nine or more credits or at least three courses.
How do clinicals work?
Students are asked to find preceptors in their local area. Once students identify a preceptor, the department will draft an affiliation agreement with the clinical site. Once both parties have signed the contract, students can begin their clinicals. At some during their rotations, a faculty member will conduct a site visit to evaluate students' progress. Students are encouraged to submit preceptor information as early as possible because the contract process can take up to three months.
Can I do my clinicals where I work?
In general, students are asked to find preceptors outside their place of employment. Students should check with their program adviser for approval.
