Military Program Health Science Laboratory Technology Certification Program
All fees for the certificate portion have been paid through this contract agreement. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and will have earned 60 semester hours of college level credit here at GW. This will also allow you to sit for any national certification exam for Medical Laboratory Technician (the A.S. degree is not required). Application materials for the certificate program will be provided upon entering MLT training class and forwarded to GW.
During the certificate portion of your training, you are expected to focus your energies on the classes and rotations and NOT pursue any additional, outside course work. The school is rigorous and you must complete the entire program with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5.
Students are admitted to the GWU certificate program in Health Sciences Laboratory Technology upon beginning their Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) training with either the U.S. Army or the U.S. Navy. Students will complete the application for admission at their training site. Course work for the certificate is listed here, with the number of credit hours for each course listed in parentheses.
The Associate in Science degree is available only to those who have successfully completed the certificate program through George Washington University with a GPA of 2.5. This degree program is NOT part of any military contract and students admitted to the A.S. program are acting as independent entities and are responsible for any fees incurred (i.e., application, registration, and graduation) while pursuing the degree. Completion of the certificate program is not a guarantee of admission to the A.S. program.
To be considered for admissions to the associate's degree program, applicants must have been selected for participation in the Army or Navy medical laboratory technology (MLT) program during specific contract periods. The following application materials are required:
- A completed GW Application for Admission to Off-Campus Health Sciences Programs
- An official transcript is required from each college or university attended, whether or not credit was earned, the program was completed, or the credit appears as transfer credit on another transcript. Transcript request forms will be furnished in the application packet. Each transcript must be sent to you in a sealed envelope and forwarded unopened with your application packet. Unofficial transcripts and photocopies are not accepted. A certified English translation must be provided for academic records in a language other than English; translations alone will not be accepted.
- Official scores from any College Board College Level Examination Program (CLEP) examinations.
- Proof of graduation from high school or GED scores if you have previously completed less than 30 semester hours of college coursework.
- A completed DD295, SMART or AARTS.
