Military Program Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences: Cytotechnology
Once admitted to the program, students will complete 50 semester hours of course work with a Pathology designation. These course have been reviewed and approved by the Health Sciences Assistant Dean and will be taught by approved military and Department of the Army Civilian personnel in consultation with and oversight from GWU faculty in the Pathology Dept. The faculty will have adjunct appointments with GWU. The Cytotechnology Program is a one year program.
CLS 101 Introduction to Cytotechnology (5)
Basic principles of anatomic pathology, cellular morphology, cell cycle, cytopreservation and specimen processing procedures.
CLS 102 Gynecologic Cytology (3)
Basic principles of cytopathology applied to the cellular samples from the female reproductive system. Morphogenesis of neoplasia.
CLS 103 Abnormal Gynecologic Cytology (3)
Histopathology, cytopathology, etiology, diagnosis, staging and treatments of benign and malignant disease processes of the female reproductive system.
CLS 104 Pulmonary Cytology (2)
Epithelial appearances and changes associated with normal, benign and malignant processes of the upper and lower respiratory tracts.
CLS 105 Cytology of the Gastrointestinal Tract, Liver and Pancreas (3)
Characteristics of each body site in relation to normal, benign and malignant cellular changes.
CLS 106 Urogenital System Cytology (2)
Structures and elements of the urogenital system in normal, benign and malignant conditions.
CLS 107 Body Cavity Fluid Cytology (3)
Examines the cytopathology of effusions, cerebrospinal fluids and other body fluids and the cytologic changes associated with benign and malignant processes.
CLS 108 Fine Needle Aspiration (4)
Basic principles of cytopathology applied to the cellular samples from fine needle aspirations of the head and neck region, breast, lymph nodes, soft tissues and bone.
CLS 109 Cytotechnology Clinical Practicum (18)
Clinical experience to apply the objectives learned and to develop the critical screening and interpretative skills to function as a cytotechnologist.
CLS 110 Independent Study in Cytotechnology (1)
