Education
Dr. Costello joined the GWU Physical Therapy Program faculty in December of 2004. She received her Baccalaureate degree in Physical Therapy from Ithaca College in 1982, a Masters degree in Anatomy from New York Medical College in 1986, and a Doctoral Degree in Philosophy in Clinical Research from New York University in 1998.
Professional and Research Interests
Dr. Costello has practiced physical therapy for 25 years in a variety of settings. Additionally she has been a full time physical therapy faculty member at Ithaca College and Columbia University teaching in undergraduate and graduate education. She has served as a member of a variety of university and college wide committees. Currently she is the Co-Chairperson of the Departmental Research Committee and Admissions Committee. Her teaching expertise includes Basic Science content (Human Anatomy and Pathology), in addition to Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy content. Her research interests include cardiovascular fitness as it relates to those with neurological impairment and health and wellness for the aging population. Dr. Costello currently serves as a consultant for the GWU Program in Physical Therapy Community Fitness Clinic as well as an advisor for IONA Senior Services Falls Prevention Program in Washington, DC. She is the recipient of the Dana Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society New York Chapter Award, and a number of Research Awards from the American Physical Therapy Association.
