Philip J. Blatt , PT, PhD, NCS

Assistant Professor

Education

Philip Blatt obtained his Baccalaureate degree in Physical Therapy from the joint program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Kean University. As an undergraduate, he served as a research assistant investigating recovery of function in a rodent model of traumatic brain injury. His doctoral degree is in Physical Therapy with a concentration in Clinical Neuroscience from the University of Miami. Philip’s doctoral research included determining the reliability and validity of the Vestibular Autorotation Test (VAT) in individuals with reports of dizziness. While at the University of Miami, he received several awards including the Chandler Society Graduate Student Award from the Department of Otolaryngology and Graduate Student of the Year from the Department of Physical Therapy. In 2003, he was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Professional and Research Interests

Dr. Blatt is an Assistant Professor of Health Care Sciences for the Program in Physical Therapy at George Washington University. He has previous teaching and research experience at the University of Alabama Birmingham and at Lebanon Valley College. His area of clinical expertise is in the management of patients with neurologic disorders, having achieved Neurologic Clinical Specialist certification in 2000. More specifically, since 1995, he has been specializing in the care and treatment of individuals with vestibular disorders. Dr. Blatt’s research is focused on the mechanism of action and the application of novel therapeutic approaches to improve functional outcomes in individuals with vestibular disorders, and in individuals with stroke- or traumatic brain injury-related spatial inattention or neglect.
