MSHS: Clinical Research Administration

Clinical research administration is a vast and expanding field that involves the processes in which products (drugs, devices, biologicals) and treatment protocols are developed for patient care. Both the master's degree and graduate certificate prepare health sciences professionals to participate in the science and business of developing patient care products and protocols. The rigorous curriculum focuses on regulatory requirements, ethical issues, processes for product development, the business of clinical research, and scientific method processes for patient care product development. The distance education format, offered via the Internet, provides a convenient option for self-disciplined and self-directed students to pursue the program and prepare for professional advancement while continuing with their work and other commitments.

GW's CRA Program enables students to learn practical skills valued throughout the industry:

"[Your graduate] has become a very valuable member of our team. Because of her hard work and the work of others on our research team, we have added many new studies in the past several months.

…we are looking to add another Research Coordinator to our team. If you know of any strong candidates that have completed your program that are currently interested in a position, we would be very happy to meet with them and discuss this new position."

Philip Beatson
Director of Operations
Mercy Medical Center
Summer 2011

Reflections on the professional value of the CRA Master's program from a recent graduate:

"I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know how valuable my education in the CRA program at GWU has proved to be in a professional capacity. I have so much more knowledge about clinical research processes in general, more than some of my colleagues that have been working in pharma for years. I find this really interesting, especially since I came from a non-profit setting with no experience with "big" pharma. I was a little worried about the transition, but I really feel that acquiring my MSHS has placed me a step ahead."
