Education
1965 Dr. Silver received her Bachelor of Arts from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa where she majored in Medical Technology. In 1975, she received a Master of Teaching Science from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., with a major in Microbiology. She went on to receive a Doctor of Arts in Microbiology from Catholic University in 1977.
Professional & Research Interests
Dr. Sylvia Silver has been a member of The George Washington University faculty of since 1978. Besides being Associate Dean for Health Sciences, Dr. Silver is the Director of the Clinical Laboratory Science Program, the Director of the GWUMC Office of HIV Activities, the Academic Director for the Medical Laboratory Technician Programs for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, the Academic Director for the Military TriService Cytotechnology Program, and the Academic Director for the Masters of Science in Health Science, in Immunohematology. Dr. Silver has an active research portfolio with major grants from the National Institutes of Health dealing with the natural history of HIV disease in women, biospecimen repositories for HIV disease and prostate cancer and an Infectious Disease Training Program in South Africa. to build capacity for clinical research.
