Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate

On-Campus Requirements

Students in the FNP Certificate Program are required to complete one on-campus component.

On-campus Component: General Track

Students who enroll in the General Track must attend the Nurs 223: Primary Care Seminar. This five-day seminar is always held in the summer semester and generally in early July. Students are notified of the seminar dates at least six months in advance.

Students' clinical skills are evaluated and enhanced through hands-on clinical experiences and instruction. Students work with faculty to integrate the content from Nurs 220: Advanced Pathophysiology; Nurs 234: Pharmacology; and Nurs 222: Advanced Health Assessment. These courses must be completed prior to enrolling in the seminar.

On-campus Component: Advanced-Standing Track

Students who enroll in the Advanced-Standing Track must attend an orientation session prior to beginning course work in the fall. This five-day orientation is generally held in late August or early September. Students are notified of the seminar dates upon admission to the program.

Students' current clinical skills are evaluated during the seminar. Faculty also prepare students for the didactic course work and outline students' clinical requirements.

Students should submit all required documentation to the department before attending orientation, including immunization records, proof of health insurance, digital photo, drug screen, background check, and copies of all licensure. A checklist of required documentation is given to students upon admission to the program.
