Summer Institute

Transition and Transformation
July 18 - 21, 2012

The Institute

Beginning in 2006, the first summer institute was developed through the Graduate program in End-of-Life Care housed in the Health Sciences Programs within the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) and offered only CEU’s.  The institute continued in this format until 2009 when the institute format was changed..  In 2010, the institute was restructured and added a credit bearing component through the Office of Summer Sessions and the Graduate School of Education and Human Development.  In essence this will be the sixth time that a summer institute addressing issues of grief and loss will be offered through GWU and the third time it is being offered as a credit bearing course.

The Program

The goal of the institute will be to provide an interdisciplinary educational experience that will address the increasing needs of our families and loved ones as they face the journey through loss and life transitions.  This will be accomplished by the creation of a community, shared, learning experience.  Additionally, the institute demonstrates the commitment of The George Washington University Counseling department to meet the challenges that accompany grief and loss using an interdisciplinary educational approach.
