committee on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of
Nursing. The recommendations will serve as the
blueprint for expanding access, improving quality, and reducing cost in the
American health care system.

NAQC Announces its Strategic Direction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NAQC and its board of directors has approved its priority focus to includecare
coordination and patient and
family engagement in care. These two areas meet several criteria important to the initiative: they are impacted by the care of nurses, they are highlighted in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act; and they are consistent with The National Priorities Partnership goals. NAQC Selected to serve as member of the National Priorities Partnership (NPP)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The National Priorities Partnership is a Partner organization of over 30 organizations that have
significant influence over healthcare, uniquely positioning them to
improve America's health and healthcare system. Currently, NPP has been tasked to provide input into the National Health Strategy being developed by the Secretary of HHS. The Partnership has a
vision for world-class, affordable healthcare and is transforming

NAQC Literature Review Related to Patient Engagement ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NAQC has recently reviewed the literature for evidence related to two areas of patient engagement identified by the board as of strategic interest related to patient engagement: Family-Centered Rounds, and Family Initiated Rapid Response. Though there is much yet to be researched in both areas, there is emerging evidence to support family-centered rounds.

Health Literacy Module by UM School of Nursing with support from W.K. Kellogg Foundation
NAQC Board Member, Helen Haskell, a prominent voice for the patient, will host a webinar on Dec 2, 2010 with Dennis Quaid entitled "Story Power: Don't Be the Last Action Hero!." The TMIT 90-minute webinar sessions are composed of a 10-minute briefing on Safe
Practices, a 50-minute roundtable discussion of implementation issues,
and a 30-minute Q&A period. TMIT (The Texas Medical Institute of Technology) is a medical research organization, founded in 1984, dedicated
to accelerating performance solutions that save lives, save money, and
build value.
Bonnie Jennings selected to Natinal Priorities Partnership Evaluation Advisory Panel. Recently, NAQC supported the nomination of Dr. Bonnie Jennings to this important panel and we are pleased that she has been selected to serve.
MOMS for the
21st Century Bill Filed in House of Representatives! Congresswoman Lucille
Roybal-Allard of California has filed the Maximizing Optimal Maternity Services
for the 21st Century bill (HR 5807). Also known as "MOMS for the 21st Century,"
the bill was filed with 25 co-sponsors.This
sweeping legislation aims to "promote optimal maternity outcomes by making
evidence-based maternity care a national priority." Read the MOMS
