Ms. Kurtzman holds a bachelors degree in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a masters in public health with a concentration in health policy and management from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.
Professional & Research Interests
Ms. Kurtzman is an assistant research professor with the Department of Nursing Education. She has been working in the field of patient safety and healthcare quality for more than a decade with a concentration in nursing quality. Most recently at the National Quality Forum (NQF), a private, non-profit membership organization created to develop and implement a national strategy for quality measurement and reporting, Ms. Kurtzman led national efforts to establish voluntary consensus standards for hospital, nursing, and home healthcare quality. She has published and presented on nursing performance measurement, public reporting, and quality issues.
Currently, her research, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), focuses on designing and promoting national policies that reflect nursing’s contribution to quality and driving a coordinated response to the challenges and opportunities of creating value-based purchasing programs that recognize nursing’s contribution.
