Education
In addition to her BSN degree, which she earned at State College at Fitchburg in Massachusetts, Ms. Malliarakis also holds a nurse practitioner certificate from the University of Maryland-Baltimore and a Master of Science in Management with a specialty in substance abuse systems from Lesley University. She currently is working on her Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Making at Walden University in Minneapolis, Minn.
Professional & Research Interests
Ms. Malliarakis is president of KAM Associates, a health-care consulting firm specializing in substance abuse and leadership issues. Formerly, she was branch chief at the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, as well as a consultant to Fleishman-Hillard, where she worked on the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign. She is a founding member of the Committee on Impaired Nurses for the District of Columbia Board of Nursing, and was appointed to the Arlington (Va.) Community Services Board, where she is chair of the substance abuse committee. In 1999, Ms. Malliarakis was awarded a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Leader Fellows Program.
In addition, Ms. Malliarakis maintains a private clinical practice specializing in addictions. She is certified as an adult primary care nurse practitioner, occupational health nurse, substance abuse nurse, reality therapist, and an advanced level II alcohol and drug counselor.
