Education
After graduating with honors from the University of Delaware with her bachelor’s degree in nursing, Dr. Brassard continued her education at Rutgers University, where she earned her Master of Science in Medical Surgical Nursing in 1983. She then added to her credentials with an MPH in Health Policy and Management and a Doctorate of Nursing Science in Health Policy, both from Columbia University. She then completed a post-master’s adult nurse practitioner certificate program at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2003.
Professional & Research Interests
Dr. Brassard’s dissertation topic was New York City home care, and collaborated with quality of life expert Dr. Steve Albert on a secondary analysis of the Washington Heights-Inwood Columbia Aging Project (WHICAP). She has also collaborated with Drs. Robert and Rosalie Kane on quality measures in acute care and long-term care. A longtime American Nurses Association member, Dr. Brassard served as the Project Manager of Tobacco Free Nurses at the American Nurses Foundation from August 2004 to July 2006.
Dr. Brassard currently serves as vice-chair of the Center for Nursing Advocacy, which seeks to increase public understanding of the central, front-line role nurses play in modern health care. Dr. Brassard is committed to the center's ultimate goal to foster growth in the size and diversity of the nursing profession at a time of critical shortage, strengthen nursing practice, teaching and research, and improve the health care system.
Dr. Brassard also works as a member of Northwest Nurse Practitioner Associates, a nurse-practitioner-owned-and-operated practice providing primary care and travel, occupational health, and medical services to patient populations ranging from adolescent to geriatric.
