Reaching out to the medically underserved in Washington, DC has always been embedded in the mission of the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences. In 2004, Dr. Lisa Mustone Alexander was named Assistant Dean for Community-Based Partnerships. Her office is the center for all of the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences outreach to vulnerable populations across the city.
The Office of Community-Based Partnerships facilitates student clinical rotations at community health centers, service learning projects through ISCOPES and volunteer opportunities. The office also oversees the HEALing Clinic, a volunteer clinic operated by medical, physician assistant, public health and nursing students at GW.
In addition to our local-community-based partnerships and student service activities, Health Sciences faculty and students are engaged with communities internationally. This includes work in South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Rwanda, the United Kingdom and Australia.
