The Health Sciences Programs at George Washington University Hospital

The George Washington University and School of Medicine and Health Sciences is an exciting community in which to live and learn. Access to the nation's capital is only one of many opportunities available to students who choose to attend GW. Health Sciences students benefit from our D.C. location, which provides unique access to national and international organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, the National Academy of Sciences, and the World Health Organization. Of course, Washington is also an ideal location for sightseeing and cultural activities; the GW campus is conveniently located near the White House, national monuments, the Smithsonian, and the Kennedy Center.

Students are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of activities available both on and off the campus. The university's Marvin Center offers dining facilities, lounges, recreational facilities, meeting rooms, and the bookstore. The Smith Center hosts varsity and intramural sports, and the Lisner Auditorium presents a wide variety of performing arts. Clubs and organizations of every type offer opportunities for participation in campus life, and many students also choose to volunteer in community organizations. The Health Sciences Student Services Office provides orientation activities for new students to introduce them to the campus and community.

The GW Medical Center is located adjacent to the Foggy Bottom Metro Station on the blue and orange lines - within walking distance of Georgetown, the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Institution, and the White House.

On campus, you’ll enjoy:

  • A metropolitan collegiate community with outstanding study and research facilities. The beautiful campus, just six blocks from the White House and not far from Capitol Hill, is located at the heart of this country's health care decision-making center.
  • A culturally diverse atmosphere, with students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries.
  • Access to the Library of Congress, the National Library of Medicine, the university’s three libraries, and the unparalleled reference sources maintained by government agencies, institutions, and corporations in Washington.
  • An extraordinary array of options for internships and preceptorships.
  • Opportunities to tap into GW’s institutional and personal contacts at all levels of the healthcare professions within the private sector and federal, state, and local governments.
