Prospective Students

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, Physician Assistant Program. We offer two graduate level degree programs, both of which lead to the conferral of the Master of Science in Health Sciences or the PA degree. The other program is a dual degree program and awards the Master of Public Health. In each of these educational endeavors, we seek students who reflect the vision and mission of the program. In particular, we believe that upon completion, our alumni will practice evidence-based medicine, advocate for their patients, and serve their community.

With an average of 900 plus applications annually, our review process is focused on assessing an applicant's depth and breadth of science preparation, the quantity of their previous direct patient and related healthcare experiences, previous commitments to community service, leadership roles, and other unique characteristics such as second language proficiency. A limited number of interviews are offered during each admission cycle. The admissions section of our website will provide additional information regarding our course and experience prerequisites, where and how to apply, and what you should expect if invited for an interview.

"Fit" is the one word that characterizes what the GW PA Program faculty are looking for in its prospective students. We recognize that the decision to pursue a career as a physician assistant is one not to be taken lightly. The intensity of the educational process requires substantive support from family, friends, faculty and many others. We strongly believe that every applicant needs to examine potential PA programs with a similar vigor that programs assess its prospective students.
