The part-time certificate program in Blood Banking for Clinical Laboratory Science is completed over a 2-year period. The program requires completion of 16 credit hours of online coursework and a clinical practicum in a blood bank. Completion of the certificate qualifies the graduate to take the Technologist in Blood Banking examination offered by national certifying agencies.

Basic concepts applicable to all areas of the clinical laboratory. Quality assurance and quality control, laboratory safety, including federal regulations, and related topics.
CLS 4119: Introduction to Immunologic Fundamentals (3 cr)
Fundamental immunologic concepts. Serologic and immunologic procedures as applied to clinical and research situations.
CLS 4125-4126: Immunohematology I and II (1 cr, 2 cr)
Immunological aspects of transfusion of human blood. Emphasis on preparation and administration of blood components.
CLS 4134: Transfusion Service Practicum (3)
Rotation through the transfusion service of a hospital.
CLS 4140: Clinical Laboratory Management (3 cr)
Basic concepts of laboratory management, including organizational principles, financial management of resources, decision-making and problem-solving skills, human resource management.
CLS 4151: Molecular Diagnostics (3 cr)
Principles and application of molecular-based tests that are used for diagnostic purposes. The physical and chemical principles underlying these diagnostics techniques.
