2005 GWCI Cancer Gala Honorees

 

 

Celebration of Life – given to an individual whose survival story inspires courage, and imparts hope to others fighting cancer.
Recipient: Michael Milken, founder of the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Milken Family Foundation, the Milken Institute and Faster/Cures/The Center for Accelerating Medical Solutions.

 

 

Distinguished Public Service Award – presented to an individual who has provided outstanding public leadership in cancer healthcare and public policy.
Recipient: Harold P. Freeman, MD, associate director of the National Cancer Institute and director of the NCI Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities, and medical director of the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention.

 

 

Cancer Advocacy Award – recognizing an individual or organization that has provided exemplary leadership in advancing cancer healthcare through support of research, education, philanthropy and patient advocacy.
Recipient: Carolyn R. (Bo) Aldigé, president of the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation.

 

 

Cancer Compassion Award – presented to an individual or organization that has exemplified devotion to improving access to and quality of care among medically underserved communities.
Recipient: Elmer E. Huerta, MD, MPH, founder and director of the Cancer Preventorium at the Washington Hospital Center.
