2004 GWCI Cancer Gala Honorees

 

 

Celebration of Life – given to an individual whose survival story inspires courage, and imparts hope to others fighting cancer.
Recipient: Lance Armstrong, Tour de France champion

 

 

Distinguished Public Service Award – presented to an individual who has provided outstanding public leadership in cancer healthcare and public policy.
Recipient: Andrew von Eschenbach, MD, director of the National Cancer Institute

 

 

Cancer Advocacy Award – recognizing an individual or organization that has provided exemplary leadership in advancing cancer healthcare through support of research, education, philanthropy and patient advocacy.
Recipient: Ellen Sigall, PhD, chair of the Friends of Cancer Research

 

 

Cancer Compassion Award – presented to an individual or organization that has exemplified devotion to improving access to and quality of care among medically underserved communities.
Recipient: Zora Brown, founder and chair of the Cancer Awareness Program Services and Breast Cancer Resource Committee.
