Clinical Trials

GW is involved in several clinical trial studies designed to advance scientific knowledge for cancer care. Examples of current research efforts include the following:
  • The ASSURE Study
Researchers are testing two drugs (Sorafinib and Sunitinib) to prevent recurrence in kidney cancer patients. There is currently no treatment available for kidney cancer patients after surgery. They are comparing the disease-free survival of patients with kidney cancer, treated with one of these two drugs after surgery, versus patients treated with a placebo after surgery.

  • The Amgen 20060197 Study
This study uses the drug Romiplostim as a treatment for low platelet count in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome. This study focuses on the long-term safety and efficacy of the drug.

  • Adjuvant Treatment for Breast Cancer Patients with High-risk for Recurrence
This study seeks to determine if adding the drug Avastin to the current standard chemotherapy medications will reduce the risk of recurrence, compared to standard chemotherapy alone.

  • The SOMO-INSIGHT Study
Led by Rachel F. Brem, MD and U-Systems, this study will determine whether Full Field Digital Mammography along with the somoov Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) can improve breast cancer detection when compared to mammography alone in women with dense breasts.
