Text: There is no text for this course. Reading materials will be placed on reserve in
the library and/or in room 201 with the department secretary.
This course involves the study of techniques for teaching, leading, organizing, and
facilitating sport, health, and fitness activities in a variety of organized settings in which an
exercise science major might find him/herself employed.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. understand the basic strategies for teaching, leading, organizing, and facilitating a variety
of sport, health, and fitness activities.
2. recognize many of the administrative issues related to the conduct of sport, health, and
fitness activities.
3. understand how different motivational, physical, and emotional parameters affect lifestyle
behaviors and behavior change.
4. discern between valid and fraudulent health promotion products, services, and equipment.

Plus and minus grade adjustments will be made according to student attendance and
participation in class. In other words, your grade may be adjusted partially (ñ) according to
your class attendance and contribution to class discussions. At the end of the semester, if
your point score is on the borderline, it could be adjusted up or down depending upon how
actively involved you were in the class during the semester.
Summary of Evaluations:
Exams - The date of the midterm exam will be announced about two weeks prior to the exam
date. This allows us freedom to progress at a date we feel best for the class. The final exam
will be taken at the university scheduled time, which is tentatively set for Wednesday, May 8th
at 8:30 a.m.
Project - You are required to design a program related to a specific fitness/health/sport area.
In this written assignment you will specify: the proposed budget, personnel required, duties &
responsibilities of required personnel, equipment needed, facilities needed, proposed schedule,
program contents, target population, promotional strategy, etc. Detailed instructions will be
distributed in class.
Assignments - Periodically, you will have minor assignments in class. These will be short reading
assignments, written summaries, library work, etc. The point value for each along with specific
details will be distributed during the course.
