RESEARCH

Exercise Science has an active research program focusing on obesity and eating behavior, and the metabolic aspects of exercise and nutrition with applications in disease prevention and disease rehabilitation. Most of the research is interdisciplinary, with other departments on campus and in the community.

  1. National Institutes of Health grant--GEMS Girls health Enrichment Multi-site Study): Prevention of weight gain in African American Girls
  2. H@AS (Health at Any Size) Treatment for Overweight and Obesity: A new cognitive-behavior approach to treatment of overweight without severe restriction.
  3. Gilead Sciences- grant- Multi Center Study of the treatment of Antiretroviral-Naive HIV-1-Infected patients: Effects of drug treatment on body composition.
  4. Metabolic response to Diet and Exercise in Overweight Subjects- Investigations into how diet composition and exercise intensity affect metabolism.
