The fall semester of 2003 was a very busy one. In addition to it being the first semester as an official department, several new people arrived to Building K.
Alex Dickman left her position as The Department of Exercise Science Administrative Manager. She is now Instructor of Exercise Science and we welcome her to the faculty. She teaches Issues in Women's Health and Personal Health and Wellness. Her other primary responsibilities include coordinating two significant programs: the Exercise and Sport Activity Program and the Non-Major Academic Program. She is working with the new Administrative Manager to help with the adjustment process. Congratulations, Alex!
Julie Fitzpatrick has taken over Alex's position as Administrative Manager. Julie just moved to the area from Hawaii at the beginning of August. While living in Hawaii she initially worked as a publisher for the University of Hawaii at Manoa and then worked as a grant administrator for Windward Community College. She holds an MA in English and is currently working on her doctorate in Education at GWU. She is very happy to be at GWU but is still in the process of adjusting to the new climate and to the traffic! She is very grateful to have Alex's support and patience as she adjusts to her new position.
Also in the fall, Steve Thornton replaced Shirin Nazemzadeh as Executive Assistant. Steve just graduated from GWU with a degree in political science, and plans to continue on to graduate school. During his time as an undergraduate, Steve worked in GW's political science department as well as for a law firm in Kansas, the Sedgwick County
District Attorney's office, and Wharton Computing. Welcome, Julie and Steve!
