Graduate Student Profile: Lisa Anderson
Lisa Anderson is a second-year graduate student in the Exercise, Nutrition, and Eating Behavior track. She is a Virginia native who has an extensive and interesting educational background. As an undergraduate, she attended the College of William and Mary as a pre-med major, and later transferred to Longwood University and received her B.S. in business administration with a concentration in marketing. Driven by her interest in nutrition, she later attended Baltimore International Culinary Cooking School and earned her Associates Degree in cooking. With her background in cooking, she is constantly trying to find ways of altering traditional recipes to come up with healthier versions.
Lisa is now continuing with her interest in nutrition here at GW.
Lisa's first semester as a Graduate Assistant was this fall. She is the anatomy and physiology lab instructor for Dr. Danoff's undergraduate Anatomy and Physiology class. Although it has been difficult adjusting to being a teacher as well as a student, she said “When it goes right, it's a thrill.”
Lisa's teaching position will hopefully give her experience for what she looks forward to doing once she completes her Master's degree. When asked what she would like to do in the future, she laughed and said she “hasn't a clue” as to the exact job description. What she does know is that she wants to work in the area of community health education and hopes to bring education about nutrition and eating behavior to the community level.
