Dr. Paup came to the George Washington University
in 1973 as Director of the Exercise Center of the National
Exercise and Heart Disease Project (NEHDP), to direct the
exercise rehabilitation of the GWU Collaborating Center
of the NEHDP, and as adjunct associate professor in the
Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and
Dance. In 1978 he became Professor of Human Kinetics and
Leisure Studies in the School of Education and Human Development
where he served as Associate Director of the Runner's Clinic,
Director of the Human Performance & Cardiac Rehabilitation
laboratory, and Co-Director of the Occupational Health Physical
Fitness Program of the American Council on International
Sports. From 1990-1995 he served as Chair of the Department
of Exercise Science and Tourism Studies, Coordinator of
the Exercise Science undergraduate programs, founder and
Executive Director of the Women's Exercise Research Center,
CO-Director of the Phase IV Cardiac Rehabilitation Program,
and Clinician for the President's Council on Physical Fitness
and Sports. He has served as Director of Exercise Science
Programs since 1995 when Exercise Science moved from the
Graduate School of Education and Human Development to the
GWU Medical Center and to the School of Public Health and
Health Services.

| Patricia Sullivan is Professor of Exercise
Science at the George Washington University in Washington,
DC. She currently teaches the following undergraduate courses:
Exercise and Sport Psychology, Principles of Coaching, Current
Issues in Exercise and Sport Science, Administration of
Health and Fitness Programs and Personal Leadership Skills
in Sport. She currently teaches the following graduate course:
Psychological Aspects of Sport, Exercise and Fitness. She
also supervises graduate students conducting their final
research projects.
Dr. Sullivan is the coordinator of the Basic
Activity Program at The George Washington University. She
is actively involved in the National Association for Girls
and Women in Sport, and the National Association for Sport
and Physical Education. She served on the National Task
Force on Coaching Education that recently produced the publication,
National Standards for Athletic Coaches. She has served
as president of the National Council for Accreditation of
Coaching Education and she is a frequent presenter at national
conventions.
Prior to her position in the Department
of Exercise Science, Dr. Sullivan spent fourteen
years coaching volleyball including nine years at The George
Washington University, three at the University of Nebraska
and two at Smith College. Her coaching and athletic administration
background led her to her current interests in leadership
development in both athletes and coaches, coaching education,
performance enhancement, burnout and gender issues in sport
and exercise.

| Beverly J. Westerman is an Assistant Professor
at The George Washington University (GW) in Washington,
DC. She currently teaches the following undergraduate courses:
Care and Prevention of Athletic Injury, Emergency Procedures
and Safety Skills, Introduction to Athletic Training, Physical
Assessment of Athletic Injury, and Athletic Training Practicum
I, II, III, IV. She directs the CAAHEP accredited Athletic
Training Education program. Dr. Westerman coordinates the
Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI) Seminar for ACIs involved
with the Athletic Training Education Program at GW.
Prior to her position as Director of Athletic
Training Education/Assistant Professor, Dr. Westerman spent
fourteen years as the Head Athletic Trainer in the Athletic
Department at GW. GW is an NCAA Division One athletic institution.
Dr. Westerman received the B.S. degree in
Physical Education/Athletic Training from Western Kentucky
University, Bowling Green, KY; the M.Ed. in Sports Medicine/Athletic
Training from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville,
VA; and the Ed.D. from the George Washington University,
Washington, DC.

| Dr. Miller is a research scientist and
clinician with 20 years experience in the field of obesity,
metabolism and eating disorders. He has over 50 scientific
research publications in the area of obesity, fat metabolism,
body composition, weight control, exercise physiology and
nutrition. He has lectured on these topics for years and
has given over 70 presentations at scientific meetings.
Dr. Miller is the author of three books: The
Non-Diet Diet: A Simple 100-point Scoring System for Weight
Loss Without Counting Calories; Negotiated Peace: How to
End the War Over Weight; and The Biochemistry of Exercise
and Metabolic Adaptation. He was the scientific advisor
and writer for the production of a college level nutrition
video titled: The Nutty, Nougat-Filled World of Human Nutrition.
He was the Director of the Indiana University Weight Loss
Clinic for 8 years, the Clinical Director of the Non-Diet
Diet Centers, Inc. for 6 years, and is currently the Director
of the George Washington University Healthy Weight Management
Programs.
Dr. Miller is a Fellow in the American College
of Sports Medicine as well as a fellow in the North American
Association for the Study of Obesity. Dr. Miller is the
treasurer and membership clerk for the International Society
of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity. He is the
editor for Healthy Weight Journal and has been a scientific
reviewer of research articles for various professional journals.
He recently worked with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
in developing the Partnership for Healthy Weight Management
and continues to serve with the FTC as a committee member
for Consumer Education relative to weight control. He is
currently involved in research projects locally and internationally.
Dr. Miller has taught or is teaching the following
college courses: Weight Loss, Dieting and Eating Disorders;
Body Composition and Obesity; Basic Nutrition; Advanced
Nutrition and Metabolism; Advanced Topics in Exercise Physiology;
Exercise Biochemistry; Exercise Physiology; Exercise, Nutrition
and Weight Control; Administration of Health Promotion Programs;
and Evaluation and Counseling Techniques. He has designed
and implemented the Master's degree emphasis titled Exercise
, Nutrition and Eating Behaviors and is currently the Graduate
Coordinator for The George Washington University Department
of Exercise Science.

| Dr. Hamm holds a PhD in exercise physiology
from the University of Minnesota, a Master’s degree
in Physical Education from Michigan State University, and
a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Concordia
Teachers College (Illinois). He joined the Department of
Exercise Science faculty in August of 2000 after 24 years
of clinical experience. This experience included directing
hospital-based and office-based cardiac rehabilitation programs
in Minnesota, as well as experience working with a private
practice cardiology group. Immediately prior to coming to
GWU, Dr. Hamm was the Program Director of the cardiac rehabilitation
program at the internationally renowned Toronto Rehabilitation
Centre in Toronto, Canada.
Dr. Hamm is a Fellow in the American College of Sports
Medicine (ACSM), American Association of Cardiovascular
and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), and the Society of
Geriatric Cardiology. He is currently a member of the ACSM
Committee on Certification and Registry Boards and the chair
of the Exercise Specialist Certification Subcommittee. He
also a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer for
AACVPR.
His research interests are in the areas of cardiac rehabilitation
(especially program models and outcomes), clinical exercise
testing, and clinical exercise physiology in special populations.
Dr. Hamm is presently one of the Principal Investigators
on a $4,000,000
research grant from the National Institute of Disability
and Rehabilitation Research looking at exercise and secondary
conditions in persons with spinal cord injury. He has presented
and published nationally and internationally on the topics
of cardiac rehabilitation and clinical exercise physiology.

| Dr. Danoff holds a PhD in Kinesiology from
the University of Maryland, a Master of Science in Aerospace
Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, a Bachelor
of Engineering Science from Johns Hopkins University, and
a Physical Therapy degree from the University of Maryland
at Baltimore. He has been teaching in the areas of Anatomy,
Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Modalities, Statistics, and Research
Design for over 20 years and has been on the faculties of
the University of Maryland, Howard University, and George
Washington University. He has also served as adjunct faculty
at Boston and Shenandoah Universities.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Danoff has been
actively involved in research and has served as a research
consultant to the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine
at the National Institutes of Health since 1984. His research
has included movement analysis (normal and abnormal), cancer
(treatment outcomes, modalities), HIV (functional capabilities
in infants, children, and adolescents), stroke and cardiac
problems (functional assessment, performance), and acupuncture.
He has authored or co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed
publications.
Dr. Danoff is a member of the American College
of Sports Medicine and the American Physical Therapy Association.
He is a licensed Physical Therapist and is active in the
Orthopedic, Clinical Electrophysiology, and Research Sections
of the APTA. He also is a manuscript reviewer for several
professional journals.

Ms. Washington-Lofgren received her Masters degree
in Exercise Physiology from the George Washington University,
and her Bachelors degree in Kinesiology/Athletic Training
from James Madison University. She has been a certified
athletic trainer since 1999. Her academic work involves
CPR, first aid and athletic training education. She also
works in the athletic department as the athletic trainer
for the womens gymnastic team.

Dr. Schulken received her PhD in Public Health Education,
MS in Health Promotion and Education, and BA in Health Education
from the School of Public Health at the University of South
Carolina. Her academic and research interests are womens
and minority health issues with a focus on nutrition, exercise,
and weight related attitudes and behaviors and eating disorders.
She is the advisor for the undergraduate health and fitness
concentration. Prior to joining the faculty in the Department
of Exercise Science, she was on faculty in the Department
of Health Education at the University of Maryland, College
Park. Dr. Schulken has taught or is teaching the following
college courses: Womens Health Issues; Weight Loss,
Dieting and Eating Disorders; Women, Weight and Society;
Epidemiologic Methods and Concepts; Public Health; Health
Behavior; Womens Health Research; Health Promotion
and Personal and Community Health. She has presented nationally
and published articles on topics related to womens
health, nutrition and weight related attitudes and behaviors,
and eating disorders.

Alex Dickman joined the Department of Exercise Science
as an instructor in September 2003; her experience with
the George Washington University, however, has been extensive.
Alex received her undergraduate degree from GW in 1977 and
returned in the Spring of 1999 to complete a Master of Science
in Exercise Science. She currently teaches Issues in Women’s
Health and Personal Health and Wellness. Her duties within
the department include coordinating the extensive activity
class program, as well as coordinating the academic non-major
classes, which include general topics courses open to GW
undergraduates such as Human Sexuality, Personal Health
and Wellness, Sport and Nutrition, Sport and the Law, and
others. She also advises the undergraduate Exercise Science
majors club.
