| ADMISSIONS
CRITERIA*
Acceptance to The George Washington
University does not constitute acceptance into the Athletic Training
Education Program (ATEP).
Students who wish to apply for admission must meet
the following requirements:
1. Academic Requirements
a. Minimum of 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA)
b. Completion of a minimum of 30 credit hours including the following course work: EXSC 050 Emergency Procedures and Safety Skills and EXSC 102 Introduction to Athletic Training with a minimum of B in both courses
2. Submit a personal essay that expresses your interest in the Athletic Training major
3. Health Clearance
a. Physician Documentation of immunization (or waiver) of Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccinations, and TB test
b. Proof of having passed a physical exam for the physical tasks involved in athletic training
4. Signed
Technical Standards form (download pdf here)
5. Prior Athletic Training Observation Experience
6. Completion of ATEP application (includes personal essay)
7. Interview
a. Interview typically conducted in May

*Admission into the Athletic Training Education Program is selective and may be contingent upon availability of clinical practicum sites and approved clinical instructors. Students should expect to participate in off-campus clinical experiences and to potentially incur additional expenses due to required travel.
Transfer Students
1. Transfer students must meet entrance requirements to the University, the School of Public Health and Health Services, and the Department of Exercise Science
2. In addition, transfer students must meet all of the above criteria for admission in the ATEP
3. Transfer credit from other institutions will be evaluated by departmental faculty for acceptance by the School of Public Health and Health Services
Retention
1. The student will be retained in the ATEP provided the student maintains a 2.5 overall GPA and maintains timely progression through the didactic and clinical portions of the program
2. The student must abide by the NATA Code of Ethics
Graduation Requirements
To qualify for graduation, students must complete a minimum of 124 semester hours (45 semester hours of general curriculum courses, 74 credit hours in the athletic training major, and 5 credit hours of elective courses) with a minimum grade point average of 2.5
