Jehan El-Bayoumi, MD, FACP
Internal Medicine Program Director
George Washington University

As Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency here at The George Washington University Medical Center, I would like to welcome you to our website! We have tried to organize it not only to answer your specific questions but also to give you a better feel for our program.

The truth of the matter is that university-based programs are very similar and I want to make sure that you get an idea of how we stand out. Our program has a definite family feeling with interns and residents who come from a variety of backgrounds with lots of different life experiences. Couple that with a patient population that is diverse in every sense of the word and a terrific, easy-to-work-with and accessible faculty, then you have an idea why we attract some of medicine's best and brightest! You will also have the opportunity to rotate through four excellent hospitals: GWUMC, VAMC, Fairfax and NIH.

Finally, the backdrop of Washington, D.C. , allows you to explore a city that is rich with cultural, social and political activities. We even offer a health policy elective to give you an upfront and personal look at inside-the-beltway policymaking.

So, in summary, by the time you have finished training with us, whether it's for one year or three, you will feel very comfortable taking care of patients in just about any setting. Just as important, you will have had the chance to form friendships with one of the most wonderful groups of housestaff in the country!

I look forward to meeting you soon!
