The Veterans Affairs Medical Center
The Washington, D.C., Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a modern 700-bed facility. The 291-bed inpatient medical service includes the 171-bed general medical service, a 30-bed Oncology Unit, a 15-bed Medical Convalescent Care Unit, a 16-bed Medical Intensive Care/Coronary Unit, a 32-bed Respiratory Disease Ward, and a 20-bed Hemodialysis Unit. Inova Fairfax Hospital is one of the most highly ranked hospitals in the nation. This 753-bed facility includes a brand new heart institute. Fairfax sees over 70,000 ER visits per year and has more than 50,000 admissions per year. The hospital also uses forefront technology to support heart, lung, renal, liver, and pancreatic transplant services. The recent addition of this hospital to our residency program experience will open up 15 new fellowship spots in gastroenterology, cardiology, critical care, infectious disease, nephrology, and hematology/oncology.
