The George Washington Geriatric Medicine Fellowship is an ACGME-accredited one-year program designed to prepare physicians to be clinical, educational and administrative leaders in Geriatric Medicine and Palliative Care. Fellows rotate through varied settings, gaining familiarity with acute geriatric medicine, primary care, consultation, home care, nursing home care and palliative care. Fellows become experts in Quality Improvement and gain experience as Medical Director.
There are five geriatric fellowship positions available each year.
Applicants are required to be Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.
There is one palliative care fellowship available each year. Fellow rotate through Hospice Alliance of the National Capital Regions, Community Hospices, NIH Palliative Care and Washington DC VA Medical Center Palliative Care. A broad exposure to varied aspects of palliative care and emphasis on leadership and quality improvement characterize this innovative fellowship experience
Applicants are required to be Board-Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Neurology,
Psychiatry or physiatry.
