Resident Research Opportunities
Residents at GW have numerous opportunities to participate in meaningful research during their residency training.
In fact, residents have a requirement to participate in research and to produce a project summary prior to graduating the residency training program. Each resident meets with his/her faculty advisor and the Program Director to determine possible research projects to affiliate with early in the resident's training. Opportunities are avialable for basic science as well as clinical research with faculty research mentors.
The George Washington University Medical Center coordinates an Annual Research Day for its students and residents. Over 400 posters are presented annually; many posters are presented from our Department. The District of Columbia likewise sponsors an Annual Research Forum with cash prizes for resident research.
Additionally, our Department sponsors residents to attend national meetings around the United States: the ASA Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., the Society for Education in Anesthesiology Chief Resident Leadership Conference, The ASA Annual Meeting, the Post-Graduate Assembly of the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia Conference, and the ASA's Practice Management Conference are all represented by GW Anesthesia Residents regularly.
